Automotive Systems Technology
The Automotive Systems Technology curriculum prepares individuals for employment as automotive service technicians. It provides an introduction to automotive careers and increases student awareness of challenges associated with this fast and ever-changing field.
Classroom and lab experiences integrate technical and academic course work. Emphasis is placed on theory, servicing and operation of brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, steering/suspension, automatic transmission/transaxles, engine repair, climate control, and manual drive trains.
Enrolling in a Community College program in Automotive Technology is an excellent choice for someone seeking employment as an automotive technician. Several Community Colleges in North Carolina offer a diploma in automotive technology. These programs prepare individuals for employment by providing the necessary information and skills to gain employment in the automotive industry. Coursework as well as technician training educates students in a variety of areas important for an automotive career. The programs begin with an introduction to automotive careers and then familiarize students with the demands of this growing field. Topics covered by these programs include: service and operation of brakes, electrical and electronic systems, engine performance, steering and suspension, automatic transmission and transaxles, engine repair, climate control, and manual drive trains. Some schools also offer specialized programs in race car technology and recreational vehicle maintenance.
