Once you have received training you will be ready to begin your new career. Most community colleges can offer career assistance in the form of help putting together a resume, job searching, and interviewing skills.

Getting a resume together is an important step toward employment. Many companies will want to see a resume where your skills have been developed, your previous work and education experience. You should be prepared to talk about these subjects at an interview.

Job interviews can be nerve-wracking but there are ways to prepare for what a job interview feels like. You should have a clean dress outfit to wear on the day of your interview and give yourself plenty of time to get to your interview so that you will not be late. Often it is helpful to know something about the dealership or company that you are interviewing with. Bring copies of your resume with you to your interview. You will be asked questions about your work and educational background but you can also ask questions about the job for which you are interviewing. Some questions you might want to ask:

  • What do you think is the most important quality for a person in this job?
  • Why did the last person leave this job?
  • What is the most challenging aspect of this job?
  • What are the day-to-day responsibilities for this job?
  • When will you be making a decision about the job?

At the end of your interview remember to thank the interviewers for their time and encourage them to get in touch with you if they have any questions or need any more information.

These guidelines are also useful for your first day of the job. Dress clean and appropriately, arrive on time and ready to begin an exciting new career! Good luck!
